I don't think she will regret it. She has gotten a huge weight off her chest. I don't think David would be so shallow as to hate her for a secret.

Hippocratic Oath

No she shouldn't force her. It's Shay's brain, damaged or otherwise. She gets to choose what she does with it.

Night Alone

I wouldn't want to be oblivious. I would want to take the cure.

Get Away

It means that Shay should be angry at Tally. But she is being changed so she doesn't get angry. It isn't her thoughts really, it's the thoughts the operation puts on her.

Rescue

Shay was changed to a pretty. They try to escape. David finds out Az, his father, is dead. He didn't survive the operation.

Inside

It has a much deeper meaning. They watch as they open up people and mess with their natural bodies.
They find labels of rooms:Morgue, that some poeple die in the operation. Long-term detention, that they keep the trouble-makers in cages. Disorientation room, they brain-wash poeple. Interrogation room, they are like police.

Over the Edge

I would post the message, "We are all the same." In history, people killed eachother just because they felt different. If we are all the same, there wouldn't be war.

Accomplices

She changed a lot in the story. She used to want to become pretty no matter what. Now she's doing all she can to prevent the operation.

Familiar Sights

Yes, tally's plan will work. The thought of undoing all she had done. Her feelings are valid now.

Oil Plague

Yes they are accurate. The people of today are destroying the world.
We are losing a lot of money, running out of resources, and running out of jobs.
The people in their society become stupid and oblivious. They never feel natural.

Attack on Pearl Harbor was on December 7, 1941. Japan bombed Hawaii and killed 2350 people including civilians. 1178 people were injured.

Tally is amazing. She shouldn't feel guilty for what she did. She didn't know the device would set itself off. She didn't want everyone to be captured.

I think the voice will be David. He is on Tally's side. I think Tally will tell David what happened and get him to help her set everyone free.

It means to be able to protect yourself. It is important to be self preservant. In the world, I think the most self preservant people are the most successful.

The Rabbit Pen

I think she is with the Smokies now. She didn't even really want to betray them. I think she will help them all escape and get them out of their cities.

Invasion

Yes I do think this is the climax of the story. There is tons of fighting, action, explosions. It's just like the climax in an action movie. It's exicting and keeps you on the edge of your seat with action and suspense.

Burning Bridges

Home:My mom works all day even though she is retired. SHe never stops working but doesn't mind if she is underappreciated. She works so hard to keep my family going.

Academic:There is a person in my class. I won't say what period, but they are funny and cheer up the class when we are sad. They are smart and not afraid to be themselves.

Pretty Minds

I would want to become smater and stronger in every way. I would want to be better than I am right now.

The Secret

That when people have children, they aren't allowed to raise them. They can't see their child and the child has no idea who their parents are. The child will never look like their "pretty" parents.

I think being pretty is like being oblivious to everything around you. They jump off of towers for fun.

Yes it did require bravery to meet David's parents. She didn't know anything about them. They could've judged her badly and forbid David to see her.

I think she does have the right, she was there first, she met David first. I haven't gotten a gift from a friend that made another friend jealous.

She wouldn't have developed relationships with all the Smokies. She could've activated the pendant and not have felt guilty about it.

David

They didn't like the operation. They found out something bad. "The problem with the operation."

Work

I think this is beautiful because the lights in the night give off a pretty glow. I don't see anything ugly about this picture.

The Model

They say the woman has a special disease. Not a physical disease, but a mental disease. She would so much til shes about to burst, then she would throw it all up and lose her weight. Or, she could just stop eating. When she does that, she will lose weight. Sometimes, she can't stop losing weight. She will keep losing weight until she is stick-like.

They have it right that they throw up the food to lose weight. It's called being an anorexic or a bulimic.

Lies

David is an ugly who could be mistaken for a pretty. He is the son of two doctors. He was born and raised in the Smoke. He has never been to a city.




This is what I think the Smoke looks like except that it would be larger. The Smoke sounds like a rundown village surrounded by trees with crumbling buildings.

Bug Eyes

The captors turn out to be pretties. The pretties say they are Rangers and that they burn away to flowers to save the area. They take her into the Helicopter and to te Smoke.

She doesn't want to do it, but if shes doesn't, she will never be able to go home and be accepted again. She has to choose between a friend, and the rest of her life.

Firestorm

Imagery: Inhuman faces started down from the machine.
Personification: Fingers of it (the fire) shot up the hill, leaping from one beautiful flower to another...
Simile: ...spun it away like a leaf.

The Side you Despise

I think it was a Helicopter. I think it was weird uglies that had run away from home. I predict that the People will take her to the Helicopter.

The Worst Mistake

I had to do something because I didn't sign up for Athletics. So I signed up for Cross-Country. At first, I hated it. I'm glad I signed up though.

"Choose the side you most despise", I think Tally will have to choose the right path in the crossroads.

SpagBol

I would take a dried food called SteaFile. It would be, when rehydrated, a juicy Steak Filet Mignon. I would take a Filet Mignon and dehydrate it.


I would miss my friends and my family. I would miss a warm home to go back to. I would miss playing video games or riding my bike. I would miss everything about my home.

Leaving

Because she wants to see Shay again. She didn't want to really rat out Shay or the Smokies. She justs wants to be with her best friend.

Infiltrator

Tally is given a Necklace to activate when she gets to the Smoke. She is reluctant at first. She agrees and heads out.

Peris

I think he came back because he wanted to see Tally in Uglyville. I have no textual evidence.

Ugly for Life

Tally never felt noticed. She was being noticed now, but as a girl who was 16 and ugly. She was being scorned and shunned by her peers.

Special Circumstances

Dr.Cable takes Tally to the Special Circumstances. She cannot get her operation. She has to find Shay and bring her back to get her operation.

Dr. Cable is a mean docter. She sounds like an evil and manipulative dictator.

Operation

Tally goes to get her operation after Shay leaves. She pulls up to the office and a woman is there. She tells Tally that something is wrong with her operation.

Last Trick

Being different isn't always bad. We were made to be different. We weren't supposed to be perfect. Being different makes us all unique, otherwise it would be boring with everyone looking the same.

Fight

One fight was fake. It was for a prank. They used the fake fight as prank to the new uglies going to school. The other was a real fight. They were swimming at a "beach" in The City. They argued and Shay swam back to shore.

Waiting for David

That the people in The City don't experience nature. They don't feel rain on their "pretty" skin. They don't feel the blistering hot sun on a boiling Summer day. They don't feel the bitter chill of a Winter night. They don't get to feel the outside.

The Rusty Ruins

Tally and Shay find the Rusty Ruins outside The City. Shay shows Tally the roller coaster and they ride it. Tally almost falls off the coaster. Shay signals to David but he does not come.

In this chapter Tally says, "I kind of like being fooled about some things." Do you agree with Tally, or would you rather know the reality behind everything? Why?

I agree. Sometimes the best mysteries should be left unsolved for peoples' imaginations to wander off about it. I would rather not know everything about everything so I could try and figure it out myself.

Pretty Boring

Descirbe the Rusty Ruins. What are they? What happened during this time period?

They are metal buildings and roads with exploded cars and streets. They are the ruins of a city we call modern today. Things were exploding because a deadly chemical fusion was taking palce in everything.

Define peer pressure. Think of a time when it happened to your or someone you know and explain the situation in a paragraph.

Peer pressure is when your peers want you to do something. It can be positive or negative. Last year, when I was new here, my friend made another friend. His new friend didn't like me for some reason. He got my friend to start being mean to me, too.

Because the new pretties are so hyperactive to be pretty and popular that they think they can do anything. Plus because of the reason I just explained, it would be good business for the bungee operators.


Bungee supposedly started when a woman got in a quarrel with here husband and ran away. She climbed up a tree and tied vines around her ankles. The man climbed the tree to bring her down. She jumped off and so did the man. The woman bounced while the man died. Others did this when they were in similar situations. Thus started bungee jumping.

Tally-A girl who is excited because she is about to have her "pretty" operation. She loves to get into trouble and take risks.

Peris-A boy who had his "pretty" operation and left Uglyville. He is Tally's best friend.

I don't think they are true best friends anymore. If they were true best friends, Peris would have waited to get his operation when Tally did so they would become pretty together and they wouldn't have to stay apart.

I think she chose to wear a mask so noone could see she was an ugly. She was trying to remain undetected by police.

Before Reading

To me there is no true definition if beauty. Beauty is a relavtive term. For everyone to be beautiful, they would all have to think exactly the same way first. Still, if everyone is beautiful, then they would be same, making none any more pretty than the other.

This is ugly to me. It is scary and therefore ugly. Plus it looks evil.

This is beautiful to me. It is calming and happy. It makes me relax and its nice to look at.
